My Equipment:

Camera and Lenses:

  • As my primary gear, I use a combination of two Nikon Z8 and an ever growing collection of Nikon Z Mirrorless Lenses.

    • Top Three Favorite Lenses:

      • Nikon Z 24-120mm f/4: This is an all-purpose lens perfect for travel, portraits, and landscape photography. As a superior S-lens, you can capture exquisite detail at day and night, but without the need for bulk. This lens is where ~90% of my travel and landscape photos are created.

      • Nikon Z 24-70mm f/2.8: This versatile f/2.8 lens provides excellent image quality for portraits and gives you a chance to capture the common 28mm, 35mm, and 50mm, focal lengths on a single lens.

      • Nikon Z 70-200mm f/2.8: This telephoto is superb. With excellent image quality, it is excellent for portraits, concerts, and sports photography. Combine it with the 24-70 f/2.8 and you have a fantastic range for any event.

      • Bonus: Nikon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6: This is my go-to sports and wildlife lens. While I also have longer focal length lens, they are prime lenses and that locked in that might make a shot too tight. With the 100-400mm, you have a baseline range that is fantastic for rapidly changing scenarios. In addition, add a 1.4x or 2.0x teleconverter and you’ve got a super telephoto with at either f/6.3 or f/11.

  • I also enjoy the aesthetic of classic Nikon Film Lenses and have a collection that can produce some unique, vintage looks straight out of camera.

Recommended Photography Store:

  • My “candy store” and favorite photography store is Glazer’s Camera in Seattle, Washington. Beyond being awesome people, the staff at Glazer’s are very knowledgeable, willing to work with you to find the best solution for your needs, and provide excellent service. They also host an annual “Photofest” in June that brings in some of the top photographers around the world and you can work with them during free sessions.
